Type Locality and Naming

Southwest Fujian near Jiangxi. The Nanyan Fm was named by the Fujian Compiling Group for Regional Stratigraphic Scale in 1979. The typical section is located in Nanyan village 15 km southwest of Changting County, Fujian Province.

Synonym: (南岩组)


Lithology and Thickness

Lower part is composed of black and grayish green phyllite, meta-siltstone, fine-sandstone intercalated with chert and feldspathic quartzose sandstone. Upper part is composed of greenish gray medium- to thin-bedded metamorphic fine- sandstone intercalated with phyllite and thin-bedded chert, with fine-grained sandstone occasionally bearing calcareous matter and with the occurrence of banded phosphorite at the top or bottom of chert. The Nanyan Formation is about 1082 m thick.

Lower contact

It rests conformably on the underlying Dingwuling Fm

It conformably underlies the overlying Huanglian Fm

Nanyan Fm yields microplants Leiominuscula minuta, Lophominuscula cf. prima, Margominuscula antiqua etc.
